Worship In Action
(Venere En la Acción)
Worship is at the very heart of being a Christian, but too often we think of worship as sitting in a sanctuary among friends, singing songs with hearts of appreciation and listening to the inspirational words of others. It’s so easy in those situations of peace and comfort to repeat Peter’s words to Jesus, “Why don’t we just stay up here on the mountain?…” Worship on the mountain, while it is blessed, is only a part of what Jesus calls us to do. Just as important is His call to worship Him through serving others.
As you read this devotional, a group of friends from our church have chosen to
worship Christ through their sacrificial actions.
They are spending a week just across the border in
The living standards they find are a far cry from the ones I enjoy at this
very moment. Their beds are not
nearly as comfortable nor food as plentiful.
They have never met the people they serve.
They go there, however, to worship Christ.
To worship Him is to bring His unconditional love into the lives of
others in hopes those less fortunate will get a glimpse of hope from The One
who died for their sins as well as mine and yours.
Social service is certainly not the basis of Christianity…our personal
relationship with Christ is. But
there should be no doubt that service to others is a primary response to our
relationship with Christ. And not
just service to those we know…service to all men of all nations.
If we indeed love Christ as we proclaim, then we will reach out to
others in His name. His love and
grace overflows in our lives and must be shared with the world.
I praise God for those who take the time and effort to reach out to
others in the name of Christ.
I know the impact of our mission team will be blessed by God.
They will build a small house and perform other service projects during
the time they are there…more importantly, they will build bridges into the
lives of others and Jesus will walk from their hearts into the hearts of those
who have never felt the love of Christ before.
Our little group from church is at this very moment changing the world
for Christ. I would ask if you
would pray for them during this week of mission work and pray for us as
well…that our worship will be centered around what Christ would want
most…sharing His love with others. May
God peace fill each of us with the desire to reach others in His name.
