Resurrection Monday

Well, the pews were packed…the parking lots were filled…songs like “He Lives” and “Up From the Grave He Arose” filled the air.  There was enthusiasm, excitement and anticipation.  Everyone was dressed in their very best.  Egg hunts were plentiful…family luncheons were delicious.  Flowers were never more beautiful.  It was Easter…it was resurrection Sunday!

More people sat in churches this past Sunday than any other day of the year.  It is something we ought to be excited about…and something we ought to be concerned about.  It is something that should make us glad…and something that should make us sad.  For you see, the question is not what happened on resurrection Sunday…the question is what happens on resurrection Monday?  Will our churches be as full next Sunday?  Will the songs be as powerful?  Will the sermons be as meaningful?  Will the excitement be as stimulating?

Jesus is alive!  He is risen!  Not only on Easter…but on everyday of the year.  Jesus wants to live in us everyday…on Mondays as well as Sundays!  Jesus wants to live in my life…He wants to live through me.  And He wants the life that He brings to fill me everyday of my life.  If He truly lives in my heart, then it will make a difference in the way I live for Him everyday of the week…in the world.

How easy it is to get caught up in the “game” of Christianity.  To say the right things, to wear the right clothes, to be the right person…all when the time is right.  How easy it is to be a Christian on Easter Sunday.  But the real test in my life is what I do on Monday when everyone’s not patting my back and hugging my neck?  If Jesus’ resurrection is to mean anything, it is to impact the way we live on Mondays, Friday nights and Saturday afternoons.

I would ask for your prayers…for me…for all of us who call ourselves Christians…that our commitment to Him be a total one…that He fill our lives on resurrection Monday and that when we return to church this Sunday, we be reminded that Jesus is just as alive as He was Easter.  May we grow closer to Him each day and may His life fill ours today and forever.  Thanks be to Christ!

In Christ,
Billy
