Magnifying The Lord
2005----wow! I remember once reading a book in school about the future. The name of it? “1984”!
What will 2005 bring? Answers to our questions? Fulfillment of our dreams? An end to loneliness? Will it bring new challenges? New obstacles and taller mountains to climb?
Will there be new promises? I once heard someone say, “I don’t make any new New Year’s resolutions…I’m too busy trying to keep the old ones!”
When I was young, I spent a lot of time at my grandparent’s home. Meme and Daddy Pop were always fun to be around and there was plenty of stuff at their house to keep me busy. I remember a certain magnifying glass that always intrigued me. It was neat to see how big words became when the glass was placed in the right spot…outside the words were small, but the words under the glass seemed to magically grow. The words that became big? Well, that depended on where you put the glass…the choice was yours.
It’s a beautiful story about the meeting
of Mary and Elizabeth, one very young and one very old mother to be.
Let’s stop right there. “My soul magnifies the Lord.” Just as the magnifying glass enabled me to enlarge and focus on whatever I held it over, so too we make choices about what to focus on in our soul. Too often that focus is held over riches or material things…certainly our culture as a whole has chosen to magnify such things. Others look at our lives and see goals and dreams that magnify worldly things.
We do not know what 2005 holds for each of us. But if we will simply “Magnify the Lord with our soul” everything else will take care of itself. What an opportunity we have…to lift up Christ in 2005…to magnify Him in our souls with our thoughts, words and actions. To bring focus to Him in a world who so desperately needs Him. To realize the blessings in our lives are from Him and worthy of our service to Him.
“My soul magnifies the Lord.” May it be so in each of us in 2005 and throughout all eternity.
In Christ,
Billy
